Neurological hydrotherapy

Find out more about neurological physiotherapy and who can benefit.

Neurological hydrotherapy is a specialised service for people who have acquired significant disabilities from medical conditions affecting the brain or spinal cord.

The therapy focuses on using different exercises, routines and handling techniques to improve mobility, muscular strength, core stability, balance and posture with a view to maximising independence.

Conditions that can benefit from neurological physiotherapy

Neurological physiotherapy can help with conditions such as:

  • multiple sclerosis
  • stroke
  • spinal cord injury
  • neuromuscular disorders
  • Parkinson's disease
  • cerebral palsy
  • balance or vestibular disorders.

Your treatment plan

Your treatment plan may include a one-to-one session with your physiotherapist/hydrotherapist using the water to aid joint movement, flexibility, strength and core control.  Hydrotherapy can also be used for gait re-education, balance and relaxation.

We also offer options to attend self-directed sessions with a tailored set of exercises. Your carer can also attend if required.
